Beady Long-Legs Dreams

Unknown date, Young Childhood

The earliest Pikmin dreams that I am able to remember are nightmares pertaining to the Beady Long-Legs. I would guess the age of these nightmares would be somewhere around 6, give or take, and involved simply being the size of Olimar and the Pikmin, desperately trying not to get crushed by the Beady Long-Legs. One such nightmare was set on a small structure made up of colourful wooden play blocks, the structure not much bigger than the Beady Long-Legs itself, floating amongst nothingness. I could not escape from the monster, as there was nowhere else to go, and could only dodge the stomping legs while watching the few Pikmin with me being crushed or falling off the stage.

The Louie Dream

Unknown Date, Young Childhood

I am a person, tiny, the size of a bug, looking for cover, currently lost in a strange small maze. It is clearly manmade, being very uniform and made up of 90 degree angles, and it is many times taller than I am, probably by 5 times. It is open to the air above, with the tops of a few trees being visible alongside the soft sun, and the maze itself is caked in the dirt is had been buried in. At one point, I run into a hoarde of sheargrubs, and backtrack, feeling afraid, not knowing where I will go or how to get out, and hoping I can avoid the more dangerous predators (like Snagrets) waiting for me in here.

I could tell that in this dream, I was taking the role of Louie, even though I never saw myself. Also, although I was very stressed and very afraid, operating in fight-or-flight mode, there was also a sense of appreciation and homeliness underpinning the whole dream, as if though the situation was dire, the place, that being surrounded by this nature, was where I was meant to be. I would describe the dream as having the same feelings to it as the Louie end-credits sequence, which probably is precisely what inspired the dream in the first place.

Random Pikmin Dream 1

Unknown Date, 2021?

The dream takes place in a strange area, which invokes a school, but does not look like any school I know of. On the higher side of a short brick wall, I discover and explore with Olimar. Over time we find out way to a strange rendition of the Distant Spring, being smaller than the one in-game, and the layout being different in an indescribable way. There was more to this dream, but the details have been lost to time.

Random Pikmin Dream 2

Unknown Date, 2021?

I was Louie, on the Pikmin planet, exploring with Olimar, heading through a big path clearing underneath plants taller than houses. I came across a little station amongst the plants... which even in the dream, was strange, since the planet was meant to be uninhabitated. I cautiously peaked in to investigate, and found a small passageway, viewing a room via a wall of thick glass. There was some kind of creature in there, like a bulborb. Facing the glass was a chair, coat, and clipboard, and in the room was what seemed to be a injection contraption. Although the Bulborb was alive, it seemed apparant that the building itself had been abandoned for quite some time. Choosing not to mess with the bulborb or the objects in the room, I exited to tell Olimar of what I had found.

Waterwraith Dream 1

Unknown Date, 2022

I am playing Pikmin 3 as Alph, beginning at the Overworld. We find a cave, and begin exploring in search of treasures to nab. We (I?) head deeper and deeper until, at the final sublevel, we come out into a cave with incredibly tall walls that instill a sense of claustrophobia, and a thin layer of running water that barely comes up to the ankles. Then, from the darkness, comes a waterwraith, which kills Alph, leaving me, disembodied like the camera, to just stare at him for a bit. After a while, I come back to the surface, where Charlie and Brittany are grieving for him.

Waterwraith Dream 2

May 31st 2022

Yet another Waterwraith dream. I don't remember how it begins, but I do know that the cave is clearer this time. A tall cavern, ravine-like, that I innately know stretches out for miles, unimaginably long. Again, the ground is covered by a thin water, but with some wider parts of the ravine having water that comes up to the shins. I and Olimar try desperately to collect the treasures we have been sent for before the Waterwraiths find us; after all, we are the ones that have invaded their home to steal from their posessions. The only sounds we can hear are the splashing of the Pikmin's feet in the shallow stream and the dripping of stalagmites. I get the sense that this cave is their homeland.

Pikmin 4 Dream 1

Unknown date, 2023

A very straightforward dream, in which I dreamt that the large ship coming to PNF-404 was crewed by precisely 100 civilians (hocotations and koppaites?) looking to colonise an area on the Pikmin planet and make it a place for them to call home. Something had gone wrong and now you had 100 civilians to save.

Small Cave Dream

April 27th 2023

I dreamt that I was playing a first-person Pikmin 2, in a new gamemode, called "Endless Cave Mode." Instead of just being a cave of endless sublevels, it was a single sublevel, infinitely large and therefore infinitely explorable, in which you could go through opening after opening housing the one same creature everywhere, or you could explore the same concept but covered by its own ecosystem. I could explore endless caves full of Orange Bulborbs, or I could explore a cave with Mamutas caring for the plants, the spectralids drinking the nectars, sheargrubs tending to the soil, Dwarf Bulborbs for the sheargrubs to eat the carcasses of... Well, you get the idea. I explored these caves for a while, until I came out to a different location.

Now, I found myself in a small, but spacey, circular cavern, just beneath the ground. It would have been dark except for the stone drainhole peeking through the top of the dirt, sun shining through the opening. A vase had been resting on top, but had toppled over, which is what allowed us to come in through that hole in the first place. Above the ground I could hear birds singing cheerfully, and the light was tinted green by the beautiful trees above. In this below-ground area, there was a decaying old wooden staircase, a slope made of dirt, some pretty flowers, and a tree holding up the structure of the cave. It seemed to be a sinkhole that had opened up due to the water leaking through the drainhole flushing the area out (though why there would have been a staircase underground is beyond me). All I knew was that it was beautiful, so I illustrated what I could make work as soon as I woke up.

Pikmin 4 Dream 2

June 22 2023

This time, I was at the cinema to watch a showing of Pikmin 4, which was being released in movie form. It started as expected, with Olimar on the Pikmin planet, and the explorers coming down to the planet to rescue him. Once they found him, they struck up a good conversation with him, chatting until sunset. All was going well, until they learned that he was searching for something that they wanted as well. After hearing this, the explorers feigned friendliness (it was at this point the lady hocotation in the dream had a villain musical number, which was very badly produced and nobody in the cinema liked), taking him into their ship when the night started to come on. Then they told him that before leaving the planet, they wanted to check something out first. Olimar, trusting in his "saviours," said that was alright, so they flew off to a new area (very green, leafy, looks like there had been tables and chairs but everything was since overgrown) and touched down. He exited the ship, planning to do a little light investigating before the new day ended, but after spending just a few moments alone, he heard a grand noise behind him - and when he turned around, the explorers were gone, and had left him on the planet completely defenseless. He had the rest of the day to find somewhere safe to bunk out before night fell, and he would have to try and survive from this moment on with no way to escape the surface each night.

Later on, the dream would shift to somewhere different, with me able to turn into a Pink Pikmin at will to just fly around and observe. I came to rest on a massive rectangular prism, and found one of the explorer captains up there. At first, I was distrustful and hating, after seeing what he did to Olimar. But somehow after talking, I began to warm up to him and realise that he was not as terrible as he seemed. Perhaps misguided by one of the other captains on the team. Towards the end he asked me to fly around with him, and I had to tell him I was not nearly strong enough to carry another being.

Pikmin Store Dream

July 1st 2023

A dream, in which in one portion, I entered a store selling various merchandise, including Pikmin branded items. They had a few Pikmin shirts, with cheap looking designs. They also had some largeish Pikmin model scultptures, about 30cm in height. One, at first, looked like a brown Pikmin with rocks protruding from parts of its body, and grey spiky thorns. However, upon looking at it again, it was... a super-saiyan Pikmin?

So, Pikmin dreams were the kind of thing I wouldn't've described as a recurring dream... And even though it is evident to me now I have had many dreams about them, it is difficult to lump them all so closely together. Of course, they are all about Pikmin. And to be honest, every single one of these dreams have felt like a home away from home to me. But, the characters I take the role of, the people I am with, the environments, the moods, most are different between each dream. Almost every time I enter the world of Pikmin Dreams, it is a different kind of Pikmin world. But I just think, isn't that what its all about? Both this world, and the world of Pikmin, is capable of embodying a whole array of different experiences. And each experience is as valuable as the last, just as each of these dreams hold value to me.

It would be valuable to you if you could find something to appreciate in each day, too. Have a good one
